Kevin McNally, President of Interactive Palette founding member of The Rotary Club of Fall River’s Community Garden at BCC
What began as an informal conversation between three members of The Rotary Club of Fall River has blossomed into an initiative that is producing positive response from the community of Fall River.
"Jo Ann Bentley of Bentley Architect, Inc. and Carmen Aguilar, Dean of the Center for Workforce & Community Education at Bristol Community College and I started talking after a board meeting and realized we had a common interest in making garden plots accessible to people who don't have enough land of their own to grow a garden," said Kevin McNally, President and Founder of Interactive Palette, a full-service award-winning web marketing firm.
That conversation was the impetus for The Rotary Club of Fall River Community Garden. The new initiative, started with a seed grant of $1,000 from the New England Grassroots Environmental Fund, is sponsored by The Rotary Club of Fall River and located at Bristol Community College, 777 Elsbree Street in Fall River.
A total of 20 individual raised planting beds measuring 4' x 10' are being offered on a "first come, first served" basis for a yearly fee of $20 each. Those who have taken advantage of the opportunity this season have planted corn, squash, tomatoes, onions, peppers and more.
"Our mission is to provide a communal space where residents can come together and grow fresh food," said McNally, who was recently named to the Board of Directors of The Rotary Club of Fall River. "We like to think of it as a project that not only yields produce but also cultivates and nurtures the community."
The Community Garden's website (www.rotarygarden.org) and hosting services have been donated by Interactive Palette.
